Happy Holidays, NOT

Hi y'all and welcome back to a brand new episode of Unluckily me, a new Netflix hit. I wish
Most of you guys don’t know this, but lately I’ve been working on a project together with the NHS here in Scotland - National Health Service, for the slow ones x - and apparently I’ve been enjoying it so much that my body felt the need to be in the health environment a bit longer than planned.
I mean, who doesn’t love spending Christmas trotting around from clinic to clinic, AM I RIGHT?!
Of course it’s nothing too serious, so I won’t even get an extension on my deadlines.
How marvellous.
This is no time for pity though, so let’s all make fun of me instead, cause really, I deserve it.

Back to Scandinavia

What's up people?
I just realized - and by just I mean one month ago - that I haven't been posting as much as usual here lately. I guess old habits are hard to die.
So here I am, with loads of news from weird Sweden.

I'd love to say many people asked me how life is here, but it's me we're talking about, so nope. They'll eventually ask, probably one month before coming back so not to look like they didn't give a damn fuck, but that means I'd have to wait around 8 more months and well, I can't wait that long without writing.
Or maybe - positive Alex speaking now - it might be possible that people are so used to me moving away that they've lost track of me and/or think I got so accustomed to it that I don't feel like it's a big deal anymore. Which in a certain way is not, I'll give them credit for that. But still.

Just to recap, I've been living here in Stockholm for about two months now, I enjoy the new school - which btw is totally different from my home Uni - , I've found a part-time job as a RG coach - that is if I menage to get a certain number from the Tax Agency -, I've taken up ballet again and I've started writing for both HelpImAStudent.com and StudyInStockholm.se . Yay for me.
Don't worry, I'm still single and incredibly dorky as per everything else.

The perks of being a Design Student

Hello little sunshines! Today it's February 8 and...

Wait, WHAT?!

Excuse me, but where has January gone exactly?!
I mean, it feels like yesterday when I had the second physics test, and then the third, and had to send in the 6th render, and then the 7th, and then the 8th, and then... Oh, I see.

Let's start again then.

Hello people, today it's February 8 and the world sucks.

Ok, maybe it doesn't, but being a design student probably does. Ok, it doesn't.
Just a bit maybe.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE doing what I'm doing, but the thing is, most of my friends are studying in other fields and yet, no matter how hard a time they say to be having, they still seem to have a pretty decent life besides Uni - DISCLAIMER: I am absolutely NOT denigrating other study fields.

Now, I know this may seem overstating, but being a design student leaves you with little to no life at all, especially if you decide to take a part time job too.
It's not that we have loads of stuff to properly study - even though I'm surrounded by History of art books at the moment - the real problem is the incredible amount of time it takes to "complete" projects, which in reality you never truly complete, as any design/architecture student will confirm.

Unluckily, projects are what we choose this field for - masochists  - so we can't really blame them, that's why I blame 3ds Max instead. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's actually Satan in it's 3D graphics software from, almost.

To give you guys an idea, here's a list of things you can do while waiting for your final render to be done:

1) Get your nails perfectly shaped and polished like in those cool tutorials.

2) Order a pizza.

3) Eat a pizza.

4) Have a long and meaningful conversation with your parents on FaceTime about how beautiful your kitty is.

5) Google Stephen Merchant on YouTube.

6) Laugh your butt off because of his lip sync battle with Jimmy Fallon.

7) Start thinking about all the songs you'd totally nail if you were to lip sync them.

How to survive when you're living on your own

After months and months all my attempts to get by decently on my own and be something more similar to an adult than a five year-old have been, well, I don't know how to put it, a complete disaster.

It suddenly hit me something like two or three weeks ago, while I was scrolling my Facebook timetable and came across this VICE Mag article about some young ladies' flats. Read it please, or at the very least look at the pictures.
Did you see the young men's ones? Now, I'm not saying my bedroom is exactly like theirs, though it does have much more to share with Chris's and Ike's rather than Charley's. Yep. And i'm supposed to be studying Interior Design. Good job Alex.
In my defense I must say I tend to have a pretty busy day almost everyday, getting out at 9 am and getting back home at around 10 or 11 pm most of the time because of my University or because one of the many things I always misteriously end up doing. However, I do realize it is not in anyway a good excuse for having bits of chewing-gums lying on the shelf for months or for having withe wine rotting in glass - to be honest that wasn't me, but my roommate whom I LOVE and won't surely get mad for me to reveal this to the whole Internet #pleasedontkillme

Anyway, I do however think that after exactly 9 months of independence I'm finally starting to get how living on my own works - or I'd better say, should work- so here are the tips I'd surely give to the 9 month-younger me :

1) Buy a fabric softener. I know that seems useless, but trust me when I say it's a life saver. However strong your New Year's resolutions are gonna be, you're NOT gonna be making your laundry at least once every week. To be honest, not even once every other week. You'd actually be very lucky if you'll menage to do it once a month, and of course it's not gonna be all the colors at once, so believe me, the few times all of your clothes are clean you'll want them to be perfumed and soft for more than half an hour.

2) Try to separate as much as you can the kitchen from your bedroom . Which means, try not to bring your food on your bed. Why? 'Cause then you'll have to deal with that piece of fried chicken you really hadn't any place in your stomach left for for at least another week, until you'll realize insects are NOT coming into your room only because they know you don't enjoy their company, which leads to the number:

3) Buy a mosquito net. It doesn't work for mosquitos only, you know? It does actually help a lot against wasps, cockroaches, flies, and U.F.M.s in general - Unidentified Flying Monsters. I know it's not "stylish" but better bad then dead.

And, last but not least,

4) Don't use the floor. Let me clarify this for you normal people out there: with this phrase I'm not implying you shouldn't use the floor the way it is supposed to be used i.e. walking on it. No way. What I mean is much more like don't use you floor as an extension of your shelves, wardrobe, desk, bed and whatever. Please, just don't.

Now, hopefully most of these advice didn't come as a surprise at all for most of you - and if they did, make yourself a favor and ask anyone to teach you the basics of hygiene, as I should have done - tough not many would normally take into account the hypothesis of buying a mosquito net, well, not until some monsters try to kill you and your roommate multiple times at least. But that's another story.

Hope you guys enjoyed it, fell free to subscribe, comment, like or share if you did and have a wonderful day!

- Alex
